On behalf of the Upper Tanat Fishing Club, we would like to extend a warm welcome to new and existing members of the club. The purpose of our club is to provide fly fishing for its members on the river Tanat and other waters within the spectacular scenery of the Welsh Marches.
Designed exclusively for the use of the club, this section provides members with a portal to access club information, download beat maps, make catch returns, obtain guest tickets and where necessary book some of our beats. Simply click on the active links on this page to obtain access to the following.
Club Information – membership list, club rules, member etiquette and an introductory guide to fly fishing the river Tanat.
Booking Beats – while the vast majority of our beats do not require prior booking, accessibility and season ticket restrictions require members to pre book fishing on the river Severn and the still-water beats of the Llyn and Oreley reservoir.
Catch Returns – This on-line facility only takes minutes to complete. The data provided by the returns provide a wealth of information to members and the club on how beats are fishing and what tactics and patterns are working well. More critically if ever there was catastrophic pollution culminating in a significant fish kill, holding tangible evidence of the value of that water to the club (through recorded returns) would increase our chances of securing compensation to fund appropriate restorative works. The ability to provide comparative evidence of year-on-year catch returns is therefore key to the successful management of the club’s portfolio.
Guest Tickets - members can obtain up to six guest tickets per annum for the use of their invited guests. Guests must be accompanied by a club member when fishing and hold a current Environment Agency rod licence.
Committee - Elected annually at the AGM for the benefit of members, the business of the Club is managed by a committee drawn from the membership. The Committee comprises of; Chairperson, Membership Secretary, Treasurer, Water Manager, plus three other members of the Club. Their purpose is to oversee the administration of the club, its membership, and financial steer to balance fees against expenditure and ensure water rents are paid. The committee aim to meet approximately quarterly throughout the year. Should you wish to raise any issues, please do not hesitate to contact the committee using the email addresses provided. If you wish to actively support the club and take up a role on the committee please feel free to approach us.
Beat Maps – Detailed maps have been created for each of the named beats. Annotated on the maps are designated parking areas, beat limits and the location of stiles on a fence or hedge lines to facilitate access along the beats. These maps are available as downloadable pdf documents.
Newsletters – newsletters are periodically produced capturing club news and events.
Archive Catch Returns - provides a record of historic catch returns
Introductory Open Days and Guides – Fishing doesn’t necessarily need to be a lonely past time. Club members will be only too pleased to show new and prospective members around club waters, advise on how to access the beats and share tips on how best to fish the water.
