The Upper Tanat Fishing Club - Catch and Release
While it is perfectly acceptable to keep a few trout for the table, and any fish which is too deeply hooked should be killed, the club encourages catch and release. The following guidelines on fish welfare have been issued by the Wild Trout Trust:
• Use barbless hooks
• Bring the fish to the net as quickly as possible
• Keep the fish in the water
• Handle with wet hands, and as little as possible
• Do not squeeze – it damages internal organs
• Remove the hook using forceps if necessary
• Avoid contact with the bank or gravel
• Release the fish by holding it into the current so that water flows over its gills
• Hold it gently until it swims away
